Affordable Housing Graduate Certificate
Introduction
Affordable housing is a significant problem across the US that is driving communities to reconsider design, zoning, social services, policy, and the implications to society. Housing demand exceeds housing supply, available housing types and prices do not match household needs and incomes, and construction costs are high due to a range of reasons.
The Affordable Housing Graduate Certificate offered by The College of Architecture and Planning and the School of Public Affairs will enable students to grow their expertise and become specialists equipped to address housing challenges. The certificate is designed for both graduate students and professionals in the fields of housing policy, development, finance, and design. Many courses in the certificate can be completed online or in-person. Organizations or governments can request that certificate courses be offered to their employees for professional development.
Prospective students who wish to pursue this certificate must apply as non-degree applicants. Learn more on the School of Public Affairs admission web page.

Students are required to take, at minimum, a 1-credit course on affordable housing development unless they have professional experience in affordable housing development and/or finance. Students interested in focusing on the development and financing aspects of affordable housing can waive the 1-credit course (HOUS 6402/URPL 6402) and instead take the 3-credit Real Estate Development and Finance course (URPL/HOUS 6455) listed below as one of their two electives.
