Overview

Upon completion of this certificate students will:

  • Understand fundamental concepts, practical applications, and career paths in technical and professional writing
  • Develop, write, design, revise, and manage technical and professional content for multiple contexts and to solve problems
  • Plan and conduct research to meet user needs
  • Collaborate on teams in the creation and evaluation of technical and professional communication

These program requirements are subject to periodic revision by the academic department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reserves the right to make exceptions and substitutions as judged necessary in individual cases. Therefore, the College strongly urges students to consult regularly with their Teaching College-Level Literature and Film advisor to confirm the best plans of study before finalizing them.

Certificate Requirements

  1. Students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours across both clusters below.
  2. Students must complete at least one course from each of the two clusters.
  3. Students must complete all 12 credits at the graduate (5000 or above) level.
  4. Students must earn a minimum grade of B (3.0) in all courses that apply to the certificate and must achieve a minimum cumulative certificate GPA of 3.0. Courses taken using P+/P/F or S/U grading cannot apply to certificate requirements.
  5. Students must complete all 12 credit hours for the certificate with CU Denver faculty.

Designing Health Messages
Special Topics with NWP
Writing in the Sciences
Technical Editing
Advanced Topics in Writing, Rhetoric, & Linguistics
Working With Data
Complete one course from the following Professional Writing Cluster:3
Introduction to Digital Studies
Special Topics with NWP
Technical Editing
Advanced Topics in Writing, Rhetoric, & Linguistics
Proposal and Grant Writing
Multimedia in the Community
Internship 1
Complete two additional courses from either of the clusters above6

Internship must be a Technical and Professional Writing focused internship, approved by the certificate advisor.
