Archaeological Methods Graduate Certificate

Introduction

Archaeology takes as its focus the study of humans through their material culture in context. Collection methods include survey and excavation, and artifacts and other remains can be analyzed directly through a variety of specialized laboratory methods. The Certificate in Archaeological Methods will allow students to demonstrate an archaeological methods sub-focus within their Anthropology MA degree, or to demonstrate their preparedness for archaeological field schools or archaeologically focused employment alongside their full Anthropology MA degree. This will enhance the degree in Anthropology by highlighting a focus on archaeology and demonstrate that your studies prioritized methods. Non-degree seeking students who may already be employed in the private or public sector and seek to update their competence in archaeological methods, can use this certificate to demonstrate that they have refreshed or updated their existing training without pursuing degree-oriented studies.

Program Delivery

  • This is an on-campus program.

Eligibility

This graduate certificate is open to degree-seeking graduate students and non-degree seeking graduate students with a Bachelors degree in any discipline.

Declaring this Certificate

After completion of the required courses, students currently enrolled in a MA program must print and attach the completed Graduate Certificate Completion Form to an unofficial transcript. These documents should be submitted to Christopher Beekman (Christopher.Beekman@ucdenver.edu) by the deadline to submit applications for candidacy of the semester in which you intend to graduate. (Deadlines vary each semester but are on census date). If the application is approved, a certificate will be mailed to the student after final grades are posted for the semester.

Non-Degree Seeking Application Procedures:

Those who wish to complete the Graduate Certificate in Archaeological Methods as a non-degree student must apply here. After an application for admission has been approved, students will be able to enroll for the certificate courses.

These program requirements are subject to periodic revision by the academic department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reserves the right to make exceptions and substitutions as judged necessary in individual cases. Therefore, the College strongly urges students to consult regularly with their Anthropology advisor to confirm the best plans of study before finalizing them.
