Master of Science in Midwifery

With a Master of Science in Midwifery, you’ll learn to care for women, newborns, and families, focusing on the joys of birth as well as reproductive and primary care needs, from family planning to routine screenings.

This direct-entry program requires no prior nursing degree opening the door to midwifery education for passionate individuals from diverse academic backgrounds. If you’re drawn to midwifery, this specialty prepares you to support families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond with patient-centered care that breaks down barriers to health.

For those who already hold a BSN, a specialized MS in Nurse-Midwifery pathway is also available.

Student Learning Outcomes

• Apply the midwifery management process to independently manage the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. 
• Apply the midwifery management process to independently manage the primary health screening and health promotion of women from the peri-menarcheal period through the lifespan. 
• Apply the midwifery management process to independently manage the care of the well newborn immediately after birth and during the first 28 days of life. 
• Evaluate, utilize, and disseminate research to improve the health and well-being of women in Colorado and the world. 
• Contribute to interprofessional health care teams as a member and a leader.  
• Engage in the professional responsibilities of midwives to include the development of a supportive, professional community that promotes mental, physical, and spiritual well-being among midwives.
• Integrate ethical principles in their care of women, their families, and their communities.
